Steve is pictured here leaving cones for identification purposes on the floating ice pans of the Bering Straits. 7 markers have been strategicaly placed and are being monitored almost hourly to track the speed and direction of the moving ice. This particular ice pan is around half a mile in diameter, 4 feet thick and we estimate moving at 3 mph – relocating the cones is no mean feat – needle in haystack springs to mind!
