Graham Stratford, Mark Cullum and Harry Rouse set up a Communications antenna some 2000 ft above the small town of Wales, Alaska where the team are currently based. This will enable the British Expedition team to be in constant contact whilst attempting the treacherous 56 mile drive across the ice floes. From the top here is the most spectacular view over the Straits – Wales nestled at the foot of the hills and then a view of the Diomedes islands, on the horizon Russia. So near and yet so far, Russia looming on the horizon looking tantalisingly close.
